Pentecost Worship Service
Sunday, June 9 @ 5 pm
Elston Avenue UMC (5850 N. Elston Ave, Chicago IL 60646)
Dear friends in ministry,
Greetings to you in this Eastertide season of resurrection and new life. Liturgically we have entered into these great 50 days of Easter, a time to celebrate the many appearances of the risen Christ. For those of us that live into the Gospel vision of full inclusion (see Acts 10) I know that it still feels like we are sitting in the sting of death that happened on Good Friday. I find myself there and yet I know that we love and worship a God of resurrection. So I invite you to join me in watching and waiting for signs of new life to spring up within the Methodist Movement.
As we do this, we need to be there for one another, which is why I would like to make sure you mark your calendars for a special District-wide Pentecost Worship service that will be held on Sunday, June 9th at 5 pm at Elston Ave UMC. Pentecost seems like a fitting time to gather as a diverse people of many languages and expressions to celebrate what God is doing in the Chicago Northwestern District.
We will worship together and then have a potluck in the fellowship hall to represent all of the diversity of our district. Not only will we speak in a variety of languages and celebrate our great diversity but we will also celebrate some milestones of our district.
Give thanks to our former district lay leader Ms. Vivian Matthews.Remember and give thanks to the faithful ministry of Elmwood Park United Methodist Church and New Hope United Methodist Church as they prepare to close.Commission some New Faith Communities that will spring forth under the leadership of some of our pastors and laity.Celebrate those who were commissioned and ordained.
I look forward to you all coming to this fantastic event. It’s going to be great!
