Making Sense of the Scriptures concludes this Sunday with "Word of God, Speak." Many of feel that the world is in serious trouble. We might each describe it differently, but many of us would mention feeling alienated from those around us, a general lack of caring in the public sphere, civil strife, concern for the growing numbers of families below the poverty line, an erosion of the influence of faith and family, widespread emphasis on consumerism.... lots of "trouble under the sun."
We long for God to speak to us -- right where we are -- in the middle of a mess. The Scriptures present an alternative understanding of what it means to be human, and a vision of what it might look like if we took seriously the adventure of living in covenant with God.
"Word of God, Speak -- would you pour down like rain, washing my eyes to see your majesty, to be still and know that you're in this place. Please let me stay and rest in your holiness, Word of God, speak." Bart Mallard and Pete Kipley Photo by Jazmin Quaynor on Unsplash
